RNSHS Lecture- Cape Breton's Gaint MacAskill

On November 20th the Royal Nova Scotian Historical Society is holding the next installment in its public lecture series. The month's lecture is on a famous Cape Bretoner Angus MacAskill in honor of the 150th years since his passing.
Angus was a Gaint, one of the tallest and strongest men ever recorded to have lived. Due to this, he spent most of his adult life touring around North America as part of the Barnum freak-show. In his time he became a man of legend due to both his size and his feats of strength which, according to the stories, included carrying a 2700 pound anchor. By the time he died, his fame had spread through Canada, the US and England, and had even granted him an audience with Victoria herself. This months lecture promises a reexamination of his career, his legend and his legacy.

The lecture will be held on November 20th at 7:30pm at the Nova Scotia Archives at 6016 University Ave. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided afterwards.
