Keeping up With Evergreen's First Owners

The Dartmouth Heritage Museum is hosting an exhibit on Alexander James and his family at their Evergreen House location. Judge Alexander James, his wife Harriet Hawthorne and their children were the first inhabitants of that home.

Alexander James was a school teacher turned self taught Provincial Court judge. His estate once encompassed much of the space between Summit St and Dartmouth cove. Even now, many of the streets in this area bare the families' names.

He and his family are in many ways representative of Victorian Dartmouth. This exhibit is highly recommended to anyone interested in this subject. The house itself has been restored to this period, and its a sight to see on its own.

The exhibit runs until November 9th. Admission to the museum is $2, cash only.
